"The 2015 Saffredi is a sultry and velvety wine from the Tuscan Coast. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot that sees 18 months in new and neutral oak. The textural richness is of the highest caliber, and the bouquet produces a long succession of black fruit, exotic spice and savory tobacco flavors. There's a touch of mocha chocolate and toasted espresso bean as well. The wine delivers great length and power. It promises not only to age but to improve as it spends more years in the cellar." Monica Larner, Drink 2018-2035.

“Saffredi … is now among the very finest wines being produced anywhere in Italy.” Antonio Galloni

Elisabetta Geppetti and her extraordinarily talented consultant, Luca d’Attoma, are now making a Super Tuscan that has come to define the region. One that is often spoken of in the same breath as Sassicaia, Ornellaia and Tignanello, Saffredi is a fraction of the price of its famous neighbours.

Le Pupille, a winery that has become a synonym for quality and a pioneer of excellence.

Elisabetta Geppetti is a woman of exceptional energy, determination and vision.

She was only 20 years old when, in 1985 she first took the reins at her family’s tiny 2 hectare property near Pereta in the Scansano zone.

It was a time when Tuscan wines were at a low ebb, those of Scansano almost non-existent – and women winemakers were practically unheard of. As a student, Elisabetta believed that this unique region held the key to producing wines with fabulous potential. Her understanding of the land and her love of wine combined with her skill and tenacity are responsible for a stunning range of wines.

The original wine made was Morellino di Scansano which, to this day, remains the mainstay of production. With her steadfast vision, Elisabetta added an international aspect to the estate which manifested itself in the Maremma’s first Super Tuscan, the Cabernet-based Saffredi which was first released in 1989.

Elisabetta is truly an undisputed star of the Italian wine scene having spent 3 decades tirelessly promoting her beloved Morellino di Scansano region and outstanding estate, whilst also finding the time to raise 5 children. A power house of talent and one of Tuscany’s wine royalty, one cannot fail to be enchanted by her superb wines.
