2019 Maranges Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Bachelet-Monnot, Burgundy, France
Sale price £29.99 Regular price
"2019 Maranges Vieilles Vignes offers up lovely aromas of sweet red berries, petals and orange rind mingled with spices and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, supple and velvety, it's fleshy and succulent, with lively acids and beautifully ripe tannins.
Though quantities are down due to frost, the 2019 vintage has turned out brilliantly at Maranges reference-point Domaine Bachelet-Monnot, where brothers Mark and Alexandre preside over a superb portfolio of serious, structured whites and demonstrative, pleasure-bent reds. Farming organically but without certification, the style here continues to evolve: since 2016, grapes have been crushed before pressing, and the brothers now retain more lees. As has been the case for some time now, white wines ferment and mature in 350-liter barrels. Red wine vinifications are gentle and are followed by maturation in modest percentages of new wood. Everything reviewed here comes warmly recommended." William Kelley, The Wine Advocate.
