2018 Azuda Syrah, Clos de Luz, Almahue, Chile
Deep coloured with a nose of dark berries, pepper and herbs. Quite full bodied yet elegant, with real vibrancy and freshness on the gently tannic finish.
Highly recommended with red meats, lamb, veal and pork chops.
"Cropped from a cooler year, the 2018 Azuda Syrah has less alcohol than the 2017 and more freshness. Volumes grew, and the wine fermented in a 10,000-liter stainless steel tank with indigenous yeasts and matured for 12 months in used 300-liter oak barrels and some 6% in new 500-liter oak barrels. This feels juicier, rounder and a little more closed than the 2017. It's nicely textured, with the granite mouthfeel quite clear, dry, serious and long. I like the mineral sensation and the tasty, almost salty finish. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2019." Luis Gutierrez
