2016 Monopole Blues Kekfrankos, Kovacs Nimrod, Eger, Hungary
Aromas of red cherry, red currant and hints of leather. The medium bodied palate has deliciously refreshing acidity with lots of juicy red fruit character and spiciness on the finish.
The wonderful Kékfrankos grape thrives in Hungary, and especially in the Eger region.
This single vineyard wine is given complexity from 22 months in oak (45% new Hungarian oak barrels and 70% second fill French oak barrels). Owner, Kovács Nimród, loves jazz and this wine is named after his hankering towards the Blues.
Production is very small at only 2,700 bottles.
Pairs well with cheese, pork, lamb, and sauces made of forest fruits.
The Kovács Nimród vineyards are farmed organically. These vines feel very much at home in Eger as it is located on a similar latitude to that of Burgundy, and thanks to monks from Burgundy planting vines in this area centuries ago, the area has grown into a world class wine producing region.
