2016 Massal 1945, Cabernet Sauvignon, Clos de Luz, Almahue, Chile
Fresh black cherry and dark plums on the nose with a hint of sweet spice. Lovely balance of generosity and freshness to the fruit, backed with ripe fine tanins.
"Deep and dense nose full of floral and red fruit aromas. Pure and elegant at the palate with sarsaparilla, plum and cherry flavors. It also shows some toasted and regaliz touch at the end. The palate is very concentrated, persistent but not heavy body. It has an intense tannic structure and a round palate. The ending is long and persistent."
The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels of different uses. 6% of the wine is aged in new French oak Sylvain 400 liter barrels.
13.5% ABV. Wonderful with Roast Lamb and Casseroles.
Clos de Luz is a new project in Cachapoal belonging to the Edwards Cosmelli family. Their top wines are sourced from vines planted in 1945 and they are in the charge of winemaker Felipe Uribe. The old vines represent one-third of their total area under vine, with a further 11 hectares planted 30 years ago and another 11 hectares of 10-year-old plants. They are in the Valle del Almahue, in the Peumo subzone of Cachapoal. Production is very small" Luis Gutierrez
