2016 Coteaux du Layon, St Aubin, Alex Cady, Loire, France
This golden yellow wine exudes aromas of yellow fruits. On the palate, a balance and harmony which evokes a complexity of sweet pineapple and peach. A fabulous wine with a long and sweet luscious finish enlivened by crisp lemony acidity, perfect for drinking now.
This organic Saint Aubin is the lightest of Alexandre’s sweet Chenins, being sourced from 50% botrytis-affected, and 50% golden grapes, subsequently fermented and matured in tank.
Four generations of the Cady family have run this estate since 1927, with Alexandre Cady most recently taking over from his father, Philippe. The majority of their 22 hectares are chenin blanc, planted on some of the finest soils and slopes in the area. Grapes are harvested by hand, with the chenin blanc for the Coteaux du Layon undergoing several pickings to select only when perfect.
Try with poultry or spicy food. Amazing with baked pears and cream! Also lovely as an aperitif or with blue cheese and various desserts.12% ABV.
